Pi 2 B iso image - missing vm.min_free_kbytes ?

Postby linicks » Tue Apr 21 2015 - 18:58:15

I have had a lot of issues with the new Pi network card time outs/crashes (ssh lets me log in, but then hangs - mail server hangs - telnet hangs etc. pings still work though? - a 'pull the plug and reboot the only way out'), and googling revealed that the USB ethernet device runs out of kernel vm memory, so you need to 'up' the value in /etc/sysctl.conf

Checking, all my other Pi's (just model B's) running fatdog ISO have this already (I don't remember me setting it, and the timestamps of that file indicate it was already done) - but the new image for the B 2 doesn't have it!

I added:

vm.min_free_kbytes = 32768

to /etc/sysctl.conf and all is well.

I think this might be an oversight during the original build of the new ISO.

Q. What is the difference between a duck and an elephant?
A. You can't get down off an elephant.
