no audio?

Postby glorsplitz » Sun Aug 07 2016 - 23:11:39

Hi all

Successfully used http://rpi3.fatdog.eu/ to setup my Raspberry Pi 3 model B with slackware 14.2.

Everything works nice, thank you FatDog!

uname -a
Linux slackrpi 4.4.16-v7+ #899 SMP Thu Jul 28 12:40:33 BST 2016 armv7l BCM2709 GNU/Linux

cat /etc/slackware-version
Slackware 14.2

I've looked and tried this and that but can't figure out why I'm not getting sound.

id
uid=1000(username) gid=100(users) groups=100(users),7(lp),11(floppy),17(audio),18(video),19(cdrom),83(plugdev),84(power),86(netdev),93(scanner)

aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono

aplay --list-devices
aplay: device_list:268: no soundcards found...

amixer controls
numid=4,iface=MIXER,name='Master Playback Switch'
numid=3,iface=MIXER,name='Master Playback Volume'
numid=2,iface=MIXER,name='Capture Switch'
numid=1,iface=MIXER,name='Capture Volume'

soma appears to be playing stream but there is no sound.

I tried the jack on the rpi board and the sound connector on the hdmi to vga converter.

amixer cset numid=3 2
numid=3,iface=MIXER,name='Master Playback Volume'
; type=INTEGER,access=rw------,values=2,min=0,max=65536,step=1
: values=2,2

speaker-test -t sine -f 440 -c 2 -s 1

speaker-test 1.1.1

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Sine wave rate is 440.0000Hz
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 96 to 1048576
Period size range from 32 to 349526
Using max buffer size 1048576
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 262144
was set buffer_size = 1048576
- Front Left

What sort of other information might help diagnose? Thanks

Glad you managed to find the SARPi project usefull. :)

I hardly ever use sound in Slackware ARM on my RPis. The last time I did was years ago on the RPi1 to test some mpeg video shizzle.

Thanks Exaga, SARPi has been a fun little project for me.

One of the reasons I was wanting to get sound was that everything with SARPi worked so well it was last thing to try to get going and I like to have a screen playing some internet radio station playing in my computer room, let's me know sometimes when I have flaky internet connection.

I found couple other things to try sometime soon, I'll post back if I have any success.

Cheers!

I haven't messed with sound on my PI's, but I don't think it has a sound card. See here:

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... -config.md

You may need that bit at the end in /boot/config.txt
